Several years back in 2016, I partnered with a wonderful friend named Yolanda Franklin to produce ‘A Simple Guide to a Great Day‘.
Considering that the publication and its concepts were relatively new, it is not surprising that our work was not the most refined or polished.
Neither Yolanda nor I were professional writers at that time. My intentions were only to share my thoughts and experiences with others, whereas Yolanda’s goal was to assist a friend and also express her own thoughts and experiences.

IN THE LATEST HEADLINES: Interesting Development: Article Does Well Despite Being Unavailable on Search Engines!!!!
In a surprising turn of events, โA Simple Guide to a Great Dayโ has been unavailable on search engines since July 2019. However, its performance has been impressive. Stay tuned for more details on this topic, as I will delve deeper into this experience in one of my upcoming notes.
Though the writing in the previous article may have been subpar, the message was positive, offering readers ways to increase positivity in their daily lives.
The Nature of Growth – An Unpredictable Journey of Learning, Unlearning and Relearning:
Growth is a non-linear journey that is full of highs and lows. It is not always easy to understand, no matter how much we wish it were. It comes with ups and downs, lessons to learn, unlearning and relearning. Growth can be challenging, and at times, even frightening.
While we may wish for a more straightforward path, progress involves embracing the challenges that come our way.
Although it can be scary, the beauty of personal growth is that it is accessible to everyone.
Maybe the concepts presented before seemed weak and awkward, I hope to have made progress since the last article and that the concepts presented are more firmly established now.
Perhaps the ideas expressed might have come across as flimsy and even cringe-worthy before, but I hope that this time around, my ideas are stronger, reflecting my own journey of personal growth.
In this new article, I aim to maintain a similar format and uplifting message, while adding a fresh perspective to the topic. (I even utilized word contractions as well!!!!) I hope you will find the reading enjoyable and uplifting.

As you may recall from the previous article, I opted for a question and answer format. I find this style effective in delivering the message, so let’s dive right in:
Question 1.
Do you find yourself struggling to start the day? Are you overwhelmed with negative feelings about everything from current events to the cost of living? Perhaps unexpected responsibilities, your workload, a difficult boss, or even the weather can compound your stress.
Itโs okay to acknowledge these personal issues. It’s also important to address challenges and handle issues as they arise, but starting your day with a positive outlook can help you tackle anything that comes your way. A positive mindset can make all the difference. Take steps to cultivate a positive outlook in the morning to ensure you’re prepared for whatever the day may bring.
Now, let’s discuss how to do that:
1. Reflect on the Value of Time:
Have you ever considered the meaning of time? There is so much negativity around us that consumes significant mental and emotional energy. As humans, we tend to worry about many things that are not important or relevant to our lives. It’s time to reevaluate how we spend our valuable time and focus on what truly matters.
2. Reducing Your Living Expenses: An Inventory of Wants and Needs
Take a moment to consider how you can alleviate the pressure of rising costs by trimming down your living requirements. Ask yourself, “What am I buying that I don’t really need?” or “What can I do without?” Take a look around your home and create an inventory of your wants and needs. You may be surprised to find that your future shopping lists can be much shorter than usual.
3. Managing Unexpected Responsibilities: Identifying the Root of Anxiety
Do you find yourself apprehensive about certain unexpected responsibilities? This anxiety may stem from previous experiences where unforeseen tasks became overwhelming. Unfortunately, life is full of unexpected duties. The question is whether they are truly yours to handle, as the majority of them stem from external sources.
Take a moment to identify the root of your anxiety and determine if the responsibility assigned is truly yours to bear. While unexpected responsibilities do occur, it’s important to recognize that many of these situations result from external factors. It’s crucial to identify these factors and determine how to prevent or mitigate them.
4. Dealing with a Difficult Boss: Tips for Coping and Moving Forward
Few things are as challenging as having a difficult boss at work. I have personally experienced this myself in the past.
While it is important to be grateful for having a job, the perspective on this matter has changed somewhat. After months and years of being unemployed and wishing for a boss of any kind, I realized the importance of addressing how to handle and cope with the situation.
Here are some useful tips for dealing with a difficult boss and making the most out of your workday:
– Identify the source of the difficulty and work on a solution.
– Avoid taking things personally and remain professional.
– Seeking support from colleagues or other resources can be helpful, but it’s important to avoid destructive and negative behavior. Avoid engaging in ‘passage talk’ or speaking ill of a difficult boss, as it can be counterproductive.
– It’s unlikely that most “difficult” bosses can change easily, so the ball is in your court. You can either make peace with the situation and stay in your current position, or search elsewhere for a more amiable boss. The choice is yours to make.
– Keep a positive attitude and focus on your work. With the right mindset and approach, you can handle a difficult boss without letting it negatively affecting your work and well-being.
5. Nature’s Gift: Weather
Weather is one of the many wonderful gifts bestowed upon us by nature. While I am no meteorological expert, I won’t delve into the science behind it. What I will say is that we are entirely at the mercy of nature and its benevolent weather patterns.
Although the weather may not always be ideal, it’s important to recognize its value. Think of how much life is given by rainfall, how many seeds are sown by the wind, how much is preserved by the cold, and how much is ripened by the sun. As we mentioned in the previous article, it’s all a matter of perspective.
6. Gratitude Journal:
Another effective way to start your day positively is by keeping a gratitude journal. Take a few minutes in the morning to write down three things that you are grateful for. This simple act can help shift your focus away from negative thoughts and towards the positive aspects of your life.
7. Morning Exercise:
Engaging in some form of physical activity in the morning can also help boost your mood and energy levels. Whether it is doing some yoga, going for a jog, or hitting the gym, getting your blood pumping first thing in the morning can set the tone for the rest of your day.
8. Mindfulness Meditation:
If you find yourself feeling anxious or overwhelmed in the mornings, mindfulness meditation can be a helpful practice to incorporate into your routine. Find a quiet space, sit comfortably, and focus on your breath. When your mind starts to wander, gently bring your attention back to your breath. This practice can help calm your mind and set you up for a more positive day.
9. Positive Affirmations:
Starting your day with positive affirmations can help boost your confidence and self-esteem. Write down some affirmations that resonate with you and repeat them to yourself in the morning. Examples include “I am capable of handling any challenge that comes my way” or “I am worthy of love and respect.”
10. Effective Time Management: Planning Your Day
Start every day with a plan in mind: Set your intentions for the day, determine your goals and aspirations, and strategize how to maintain a positive and composed mindset. Consider your interactions with others, and how you want to present yourself to them.
Finally, take a few minutes in the morning to plan out your day. Make a to-do list and prioritize your tasks. Having a clear plan for the day can help reduce stress and increase productivity. Remember to be flexible and adapt to any unexpected changes or challenges that may arise throughout the day.
Question 2:
Adjusting to Change: Dealing with New People in Your Life
Are you finding it difficult to adapt to new people entering your life? Perhaps it’s a new boss who was once your intern, and whom you trained to be the perfect professional. Change is an inevitable part of life, and the fundamental question is whether you’re prepared for it. In this case, the answer is most likely no โ as very few people are ever truly ready for change.
Our Fear of Change:
Change can be both exciting and terrifying. We often welcome it with open arms, but other times we are hesitant to accept it, especially when it involves new people entering our lives. We become overwhelmed with anxiety, analyzing how we will fit in and adapt to their wants, needs, or demands.
It’s essential to learn how to accept and cope with change, even when it’s difficult.
Understanding and Coping with Change:
If you’re having trouble adapting to changes that you were once a part of, it’s essential to take time to retrace your steps. Understand why you are struggling to accept the change, and try to identify the root cause.
Do you feel like you’ve been robbed of something you worked tirelessly to achieve, like the job position that your apprentice now boasts?
Do you feel like you’ve been overlooked lately, despite receiving the recognition you deserved in the past?
Reflect on why you are experiencing these emotions and work towards resolving them.
Before taking action, ask yourself if there is anything you can or should do about the situation. Weigh the potential benefits against the necessary effort to determine if it’s worth pursuing.
Recognizing change and your attitude towards it is a crucial step towards transforming a bad day into a good one. Accepting change that is beyond our control can transform any day into a great one!
MOVING FORWARD WITH CHANGE:
Once you have taken the time to understand and cope with change, it’s crucial to move forward. Embracing change can be a positive thing, and it can bring about growth and new opportunities.
Here are some tips on how to move forward with change:
– Create New Mental Goals That Embrace Changes You Can’t Control:
If you’re feeling overwhelmed by changes outside of your control, try setting small, achievable mental goals to help you adjust. For instance, aim to understand the reason behind the change. This approach can help you feel more in control and provide a sense of accomplishment as you work towards accepting the new situation.
__________
– Focus on the positives:
Change can be scary, but it can also bring about positive outcomes. Instead of dwelling on the negative aspects of the change, try to focus on the potential benefits. The former intern, now boss, you trained with such care could be an unexpected source of career growth as they transition to a leadership position. Don’t underestimate the potential for new career opportunities from the intern you once trained. They could bring career advancements your way.
– Seek support:
If you’re struggling to cope with the change, reach out to friends, family, or a therapist for support. Sometimes talking through your feelings can help you gain a new perspective and find solutions. It’s important to keep in mind that not all forms of support will yield the exact results you desire. Therefore, it’s vital to manage your expectations and approach conversations with an open mind when seeking assistance.
– Be open-minded:
Embracing change requires an open mind. Try to approach the change with a positive attitude and an eagerness to learn and adapt. While it may be a significant request, keeping an open mind can bring about a sense of serenity and education. An open mind is one that is willing to comprehend, accept, and ultimately welcome change, even if it feels uncomfortable at first.
– Practice self-care:
Change can be stressful, so it’s essential to take care of yourself during the process. Make sure to prioritize sleep, exercise, and healthy eating habits to help manage stress and anxiety. Not enough can be said about taking time out in nature and regrouping yourself.
– Coping with Change – The Benefits of Zoning Out:
Dealing with change can be stressful and overwhelming. To alleviate those feelings, try zoning out of the negative thoughts and introducing positive ones. Find calming environments that encourage zoning out of thoughts that don’t bring about positive results. This practice can help introduce happiness into your mind and reduce stress.
Remember, change is a part of life, and it’s essential to learn how to adapt and cope with it. By understanding the root cause of your struggles and following these tips, you can move forward with change and embrace the new opportunities it brings.

Question 3.
Discovering Happiness:
Do you feel trapped and unsatisfied with your current situation? Is happiness eluding you? As clichรฉ as it may sound, happiness is a state of mind that we must strive for on our own. Relying on others to bring us joy is often futile. Instead, start by setting personal boundaries and goals. Once you have a clear understanding of what you want for yourself, happiness will come naturally, and exuding joy will come effortlessly.
You are the only one who can define what brings you joy. Take the time to establish what you truly want for yourself.
Here are some helpful tips to consider:
The Importance of Self-Care and Boundaries:
Constantly being at the mercy of others will only bring stress and unhappiness. It’s important to not feel like a failure when you realize that you can’t always help those who refuse to help themselves. Donโt forget to prioritize self-care and set healthy boundaries to maintain your well-being.
“God Helps Babies and Fools” – Taking Responsibility for Your Own Happiness:
Have you ever heard the phrase, “God helps babies and fools”? While it may seem discouraging, it simply means that you are responsible for your own happiness.
So, how do you go about doing that?
One solution is to create a business plan, a well-known tool for achieving success and fulfillment. This isn’t just any business plan; it’s a customized plan designed specifically for your happiness-focused business.
Introducing the “Happiness Plan” – A New Perspective on Achieving Your Goals:
Just as you structure your own design for business or personal goals, it’s time to start thinking about structuring a plan for happiness. Let’s call it the “Happiness Plan”.
You may discover that certain people in your life are having a negative impact on your happiness. In that case, it’s important to either remove them from your life or try to uplift them with your own positive energy of love and prayers.
In order to create a Happiness Plan that works for you, there are a few key steps to follow:
1. Identify your sources of happiness:
What are the things in your life that bring you joy and fulfillment? Make a list of these things, whether they are activities, people, hobbies, or places.
2. Set realistic goals:
Just like with any other plan, it’s important to set goals that are achievable and realistic. Write down some concrete steps you can take to incorporate more of your sources of happiness into your life.
3. Practice gratitude:
It’s easy to focus on the negative aspects of life, but taking time to reflect on the things you’re grateful for can help shift your perspective and boost your happiness. Consider starting a gratitude journal or simply taking a few minutes each day to think about the good things in your life.
4. Surround yourself with positivity:
As mentioned earlier, negative people can have a significant impact on your happiness. Make a conscious effort to surround yourself with positive, supportive people who uplift and inspire you.
5. Take care of yourself:
Self-care is an important aspect of any Happiness Plan. Make sure you’re taking care of your physical, emotional, and mental health by getting enough sleep, eating well, exercising, and practicing self-compassion.
The Happiness Plan is all about creating a personalized roadmap to a happier, more fulfilling life. Take the time to reflect on what brings you joy and make a commitment to prioritize those things in your life.
With a little effort and intention, you can create a life filled with happiness and fulfillment.

THE STATE OF MIND KNOWN AS HAPPINESS…
Happiness is a State of Mind, While Unhappiness is a State of Crime:
Take a moment to consider the two states: one will liberate you, while the other will hold you back.
Achieving happiness is your personal journey. When striving for happiness, consider your own unique path. Do not allow others to restrict your thinking โ let your true self shine through. Focus solely on the positive state of happiness and all the surrounding possibilities it holds.
To delve further into the topic and embark on a path to happiness, let’s try a mental exercise:
Creating a Personal List of Happiness and Discomfort:
Take a moment to reflect on what brings you joy and comfort, and what brings you sorrow and discomfort.
Here are two lists to get you started:
10 things that make me happy or comfortable:
- Spending time with loved ones
- Listening to music
- Reading a good book
- Learning new things
- Relaxing in nature
- Traveling to new places
- Feeling accomplished after completing a task
- Eating delicious food
- Watching a funny movie or TV show
- Practicing self-care
10 things that make me sad or uncomfortable:
- Being away from loved ones
- Loud or sudden noises
- Feeling stressed or overwhelmed
- Disappointing someone
- Not being able to accomplish a goal
- Feeling unproductive or lazy
- Arguments or conflicts
- Seeing someone in pain or suffering
- Feeling judged or criticized
- Being in an uncomfortable physical environment
Admittedly, addressing the things that bring one discomfort or sadness may not be a simple task. However, by breaking it down into manageable steps and reflecting on it over time, it will eventually become more natural.
The journey towards emotional growth or healing is initiated by reflecting on our happiness, and even discomfort, based on our circumstances and requirements.

QUESTION 4:
Are you feeling overwhelmed and defeated in your quest for better time management skills?
Improving Time Management Skills to Avoid Feeling Defeated:
If you’re feeling defeated, it’s likely due to poor time management skills. You may have been dabbling with ideas instead of putting in the necessary work.
To enhance your time management, consider applying win-win situations to your portfolio. Take a snapshot of your current routine and make adjustments to better manage your time. This will help you avoid feeling defeated and ultimately lead to greater productivity.
It may be necessary to explore alternative methods, such as waking up earlier than usual, shortening meal times, ignoring non-productive phone calls, rescheduling spa appointments, or reducing time spent on other activities to improve productivity.
Improving time management skills is essential to avoid feeling defeated.
Here are some additional tips to help you manage your time more effectively:
– Set clear goals:
Identify your goals and prioritize them based on their importance. This will help you focus your time and energy on the most critical tasks. There is power in setting clear goals and prioritizing them.
One of my most fulfilling personal achievements has been setting precise goals and prioritizing them according to their significance. Prior to this, my goals were scattered and left me overwhelmed. Now, I focus on the most important objective before moving on to others, which prevents mental exhaustion. However, there is one goal that will always take precedence over others, and that is the time I take every morning to express gratitude for life’s blessings.
– Create a schedule:
Make a schedule that includes your work hours, breaks, and other activities. Stick to your schedule as much as possible to avoid wasting time. The importance of time management is a key factor in sticking to your schedule.
Recognizing the value of time is the first step towards achieving a well-managed schedule.
Although it may seem challenging initially, with practice, you’ll find yourself wondering why you didn’t adopt this approach earlier.
– Use time-tracking tools:
Use a time-tracking tool to monitor how much time you spend on each task. This will help you identify areas where you are spending too much time and make adjustments accordingly. Remember not to rely on your time-tracking tools too heavily. While they can be helpful in getting used to new schedules, they should not become a permanent crutch.
– Delegate tasks:
If you have tasks that can be delegated, consider outsourcing them to others. This will free up your time to focus on more important tasks. Others can view this as a learning opportunity, as they will have the chance to explore new experiences.
– Avoid multitasking:
Multitasking can be counterproductive and lead to decreased productivity. Instead, focus on one task at a time and complete it before moving on to the next one.
Although multitasking is often praised for its efficiency, there are certain circumstances where it may not be the most beneficial approach towards our goals. Multitasking can cause confusion and hinder concentration, ultimately making it difficult to enjoy any of the tasks at hand.
– Take breaks:
Taking regular breaks can help you recharge your batteries and improve your focus. Make sure to schedule breaks into your day to avoid burnout.
Sometimes, when I’m completely engrossed in a project, I forget to take breaks. This often leads to exhaustion at the end of the day, leaving me unable to enjoy simple pleasures like cooking a delicious dinner. However, when I schedule in breaks throughout the day, I’m able to relax and appreciate the little things.
It’s essential to take breaks, no matter how much we love our work, as it helps us stay focused and prevents us from feeling depleted when the day is over.
By implementing these tips, you can improve your time management skills, avoid feeling defeated, and ultimately become more productive. Time is a valuable resource, and it’s up to you to use it wisely.
Instead of feeling discouraged and defeated, celebrate your newly acquired time management skill that you can now share with others. This is a significant accomplishment!

QUESTION 5:
Are you coping with the loss of a loved one and finding it difficult to get through each day?
The loss of a loved one is a universal experience, as it’s hard to find someone who hasn’t gone through it.
The experience of losing a loved one can be overwhelming and emotionally draining. It is a difficult and painful process that affects people in different ways. While some people may be able to cope with their loss quickly, others may take a longer time to come to terms with it.
Here are a few things to keep in mind when dealing with the loss of a loved one:
– Allow yourself to grieve:
Grieving is an important part of the healing process. It is okay to feel sad, angry, or confused. Don’t bottle up your emotions or try to suppress them. Take the time to mourn and remember your loved one in your own way.
– Seek support:
It is important to have a support system during this difficult time. Talk to family and friends or join a support group. It can help to share your feelings with others who have experienced a similar loss.
– Take care of yourself:
Grieving can take a toll on your physical and emotional well-being. It is important to take care of yourself by eating well, getting enough sleep, and engaging in activities that you enjoy.
– Create a memorial:
Honoring your loved one’s memory can be a comforting way to cope with their loss. Consider creating a memorial, such as a photo album, a piece of art, or a special event in their honor.
There is no right or wrong way to grieve. Everyone copes with loss differently, and it is important to give yourself time and space to heal.
No Need to Struggle Alone:
Remember, you don’t have to face your struggles all by yourself. Reach out to someone you trust and talk to them about what’s on your mind. You might be surprised how much better you feel after just having someone listen and be there for you.
Assuming you are not the bereaved, here are Guidelines to Support Someone Coping with Grief:
When it comes down to it, it’s crucial to keep in mind that the words we use to comfort someone who is grieving can have a significant impact on their healing and comfort.
After my father’s passing, I was overwhelmed with a sense of helplessness and confusion. I was torn between a slew of emotions and felt emotionally drained. I confided in a close friend, expressing my desire to be strong during this difficult period. However, my friend reassured me that it’s perfectly normal to feel weak and vulnerable when you lose someone close to you. He went on to explain that it’s not helpful to urge someone to be strong during their most fragile moments.
Encouraging someone to “be strong” is not always the most effective way to uplift their spirits or alleviate sadness. What matters most is physical presence and the ability to connect through active listening, physical touch, and shared vulnerability.
Presented below are five reasons why it’s best to avoid telling someone who is grieving the loss of a loved one to “be strong”.
Losing a loved one is one of the most difficult experiences that a person can go through, and it’s important to approach the situation with sensitivity and compassion.
Here are the reasons why telling someone to “be strong” may not be the best approach:
– It can invalidate their emotions:
When you tell someone to “be strong,” it can come across as dismissive of their feelings. Grief is a complex emotion that can manifest in many different ways, and it’s important to allow people to feel what they need to feel without judgment.
– It may make them feel pressured:
Grief is a process that takes time and can’t be rushed. When you tell someone to “be strong,” it can create the expectation that they should be over their loss quickly. This can lead to feelings of guilt or shame if they don’t feel like they’re progressing as quickly as they should be.
– It can be isolating:
Grief can make people feel lonely and isolated, and telling them to “be strong” can reinforce that feeling. Sometimes, in order to avoid the constant refrain of “be strong,” a grieving person may opt to isolate themselves and be alone, even though the decision can be a challenging one. It’s important to offer support and validation so that the person knows they’re not alone.
– It can be unhelpful:
Telling someone to “be strong” doesn’t actually give them any tools or resources to help them cope with their grief. Instead, it’s more helpful to offer practical support, such as helping with errands or just being there to listen.
– It may not be what they need to hear:
Everyone grieves differently, and what works for one person may not work for another. Instead of assuming that someone needs to “be strong,” it’s important to ask them what they need and how you can best support them through this difficult time.
In summary, while the intention behind telling someone to “be strong” may be well-meaning, it can actually do more harm than good. Instead, it’s important to approach someone who is grieving with empathy, compassion, and a willingness to listen.
I trust that this NOT So Simple Guide To A Great Day has brought you comfort, healing, joy, and inspiration for a wonderful day ahead!
Each day presents a unique set of challenges, motivations, moments of sadness and anxiousness, moments of happiness and joy, and even moments of confusion.
