What Truly Matters in Life, and Content Creation
Authentic stories often begin in the handwritten spaces of life.

I have recently gained valuable insights into what truly matters to me when it comes to online publishing. In this article, I will discuss some of the important lessons I learned along the way.

If we had talked about this subject prior to 2021, I would have firmly stated that a website’s design is the most crucial aspect of online publishing. I would have emphasized โ€” and even reiterated โ€” the belief that without outstanding design features, a website simply would not function effectively.

If we had a discussion during 2023, I would have argued that beyond a good-looking website, one also required a website designer / developer with as much knowledge about website construction as possible. (It is definitely advantageous to have a solid understanding of how to create an attractive website.). However, what I found in 2024 is this: While a well-designed website with excellent navigation features and speed is important, the crucial element for a website is its Search Engine Optimization (SEO). If the SEO is not aligned with what search engines seek to deliver, the beauty and remarkable aesthetic design will become irrelevant.

The question arises: If I could start fresh and work on TriumphantMind.com again, what steps would I take?

Before addressing the question, feel free to read the linked article for additional context and reference: It’s Okay To Walk Alone

Many years ago, when I launched Triumphant Mind Lifestyle Magazine, I was filled with both hope and a great deal of fear. However, what motivated me to persevere was the understanding that I had a unique need to share my experiences and to heal, as I have discussed in earlier articles. At that time, the term โ€œcontent creationโ€ did not exist for me, and I was referred to as โ€œan aspiring writer,โ€ rather than a โ€œcontent creator.โ€ I have no issues with the new terminology; in fact, I find it quite fascinating. Yet, I often find myself unsure of what title to use, so I simply identify as a writer. Job titles have never held much significance for me. What truly matters is the beautiful โ€” and sometimes challenging โ€” art of content production and online publishing, which, as you have likely gathered, is the central theme of this article.

As we explore deeper into content production, it is essential to reflect on our motivations and the principles guiding us. Here are some key considerations:

Audience Engagement:

The topic of audience engagement is very well documented and nuanced. We know very well that understanding who our audience is and what resonates with them is important. But I want to add this point: Understanding your audience is not about predicting them; it is about respecting them. What do they value? What do they need? What do they return for?

This is a tough ask for most people, actually, and even for me. It is hard to accurately understand the needs of others, but it is easy to be respectful in the content that we deliver. So, I usually estimate that my audience returns for sharing my journey with me, while I hope that the journey and content that I share does indeed resonate, and that it is respectful to those who encounter, or interact with it.

Value Addition:

Ensuring that our content provides real value to readers is another important activity to consider. Every piece of content should offer something, such as insight, comfort, upliftment, clarity, education, or even a moment of pause. Without good value, content can easily become noise, and this can leave us confused and even worried about our offerings.

Long-term Goals:

We should align our content strategy with our overarching objectives. It is wise to ask: Does this piece contribute to the larger vision that I have in mind? Or is it a momentary diversion while I sort out my plans and processes? Alignment over time creates coherence, and coherence builds identity.

If I were to work on TriumphantMind.com from the beginning, the steps I would take include:

First, I would begin with a plan (of course), and lots of clarity. I definitely would not begin with code, and too much optimism. There is absolutely nothing wrong with optimism, because it is vital for our emotional survival when we start such projects.

For me, too much optimism meant that I was blinded to the reality of what I was to face going forward. It caused me to over-estimate my journey into something that would be straightforward. (The journey I speak of here is the website portion of the whole journey.).

Before a single page is designed or a single article is written, I would take the time to understand why the platform exists, or should exist. What is its purpose? Who is it meant to serve? Who is going to journey along with me? And equally important: What does it demand of me, personally, financially, and emotionally? What makes it matter so much in my life?

(Too often, we rush into building something before we have quietly sat with our own true intentions.)

I would then focus on website and content structure before decoration and other forms of โ€˜bells and whistles.โ€™ A clean, simple framework that allows content to speak for itself and be easily discovered is what I would aim for. There is a quiet elegance in simplicity that no amount of visual embellishment can replace. I know this now, and definitely wish that I knew it much sooner. It could have saved me a lot of work, time, money, and sleepless nights spent wondering what I needed to add to my website in order to look like I knew what I was doing.

From working on a simple framework, I would give careful attention to SEO, not as a mechanical exercise, but as a bridge extending from my offerings to my readers. Search Engine Optimization, at its best, is not about manipulation; it is about alignment. It ensures that the content we create reaches those who are already searching for it. In that sense, it becomes less about visibility for its own sake, and more about meaningful connection.

And finally, I would commit, early on, to consistency. I definitely would save perfection for later on when I have adequately found my feet. I would also put the battle for volume content publication to rest, and focus solely on steady and intentional presence. Patience would be my greatest ally.

I would also remind myself of the importance of understanding one’s own needs, both personal and project needs. When oneโ€™s needs are set aside, it is easy fall prey to the priorities of another person while being forced to ignore one’s own needs and priorities.

As I cannot get another chance to start again, I can only lean on the lessons that I have learned along the way, and of course, those to come.

At its core, online publishing is not merely a technical pursuit. It is a deeply personal one.

One of the most overlooked aspects of content creation is the importance of understanding oneโ€™s own needs โ€” both as an individual and as a content creator. Without this understanding, it becomes remarkably easy to adopt the priorities of others. You begin to build according to someone elseโ€™s blueprint, often at the cost of your own vision.

This is where many lose their footing.

When we do not define what matters to us, we unintentionally give others permission to define it for us.

Understanding your needs means asking honest questions:

There is no universal right answer. There is only the answer that aligns with your purpose, your values, and it frees your conscience.

Soโ€ฆ What Is It That the Audience Truly Wants?

Asking what the audience โ€” specifically, my readers โ€” truly desires is both an excellent and challenging question. Over the years, I have learned that discerning what others want is a significant hurdle in the content delivery process. Kudos to those who have mastered this art and consistently provide exactly what their audience seeks. Indeed, many content creators have achieved this, often even shortly after beginning their journey.

As you may already be aware, I do not quite belong to that elite group of creators who have pinpointed their readers’ exact desires, and I may never reach that level due to the personal nature of my content. However, life is unpredictable, and as we know, everything is subject to change and evolve over time.

How can we navigate the discussion of what genuinely matters to our audience when publishing online, even if we do not completely grasp it?

We begin by taking on board the concept that understanding our audience is a powerful journey essential for short-term gains and long-term sustainability. Just as our lives evolve, so do the interests and desires of those who engage with our work. What truly matters is our commitment to listening, observing, and adapting.

Whenever possible, start by connecting with your audience in an authentic and respectful manner. Additionally, where appropriate or needed, encourage dialogue through comments, social media interactions, and surveys. These discussions can provide invaluable insights into what truly resonates with your audience.

Keep in mind that it is not solely about collecting data; it is about nurturing relationships. Every interaction serves as an opportunity to enhance your understanding and adjust or refine your content strategy.

(I personally do not engage much on social media or participate in surveys. Additionally โ€” though you might see it as unfortunate โ€” many comments on my page tend to be either job requests or sales pitches, advertisements, or outright spam. I am aware that I am not the only one facing this type of audience interaction.)

Another key aspect is to trust your intuition. As a creator, you bring a unique perspective that your audience is drawn to. While it is important to consider audience feedback, it is equally vital to remain true to your voice. Authenticity is a magnet for connection, and when your content reflects your genuine passions and insights, it will naturally attract those who appreciate and value your perspective.

What Truly Matters in Life, and Content Creation
Growth asks us to adapt without losing who we are.

It is essential to welcome the flexibility to pivot in todayโ€™s ever-evolving digital landscape. Being aware of changes enables you to stay relevant. What captivates your audience today might shift tomorrow, but by remaining open to transformation and ready to experiment, you can consistently deliver valuable content. Remember, whatever direction you choose must also resonate with what genuinely matters to you.

Ultimately, the path to understanding what truly matters to your audience is one of empathy, authenticity, and adaptability. By walking alongside your readers or viewers, and respecting their evolving needs, you create a space where both you and your audience can thrive together.

There is a quiet strength in walking your own path, especially in a world that constantly places othersโ€™ achievements on display. It is a reminder that your journey does not have to mirror anyone elseโ€™s. Welcoming your unique journey means valuing your personal milestones and cherishing the lessons learned along the way. It involves acknowledging the small victories and recognizing that any setbacks you face are merely stepping stones on the path to growth.

Setbacks can indeed be daunting, and I understand that well. I have faced countless setbacks, disappointments, and even the journey through disillusionment. However, what drives me forward? Thankfully, the answer is straightforward: it is my passion for what truly matters in life and in the realm of โ€œcontent creation.โ€

In content creation, this philosophy inspires us to embed personal authenticity into our work. When we produce content that stems from genuine self-expression, it becomes a true representation of our identity and values (what we stand for). This genuineness strikes a chord with audiences, and thus, it creates connections that are both significant and lasting. While challenging times may fluctuate, our unique journey remains unwavering.

Your unique journey is your own narrative, rich with experiences that no one else has. It is this narrative that will distinguish your content and allow it to stand out in a world saturated with information. So, trust in your path, let your voice be heard, and continue to create content that is true to you.

Confidence in your own journey is not arrogance, it is stability. It is a from of stability that is required when one starts a project in content creation for online publishing. When you trust your path, you are less likely to feel unsettled by the milestones of others. Their success becomes something to respect, not something to measure yourself against. Everyone is working with a different set of circumstances, a different history, their own timeline, and a different calling. Everyone has their own expectation for an outcome, and everyone has hope for what they have to offer.

It is crucial to have confidence in your own journey to prevent feeling intimidated by the achievements of others. Remember, everyone has their own story. Your own content is your own story.

The day I first learned about โ€œthe algorithm,โ€ I nearly lost all hope for my project. The thought of needing to compete against the internet algorithm felt daunting. I vividly remember someone telling me, โ€œIf you’re not at the top of the search results โ€” considering the countless pages and millions of websites โ€” the algorithm will overlook you! It will either ignore your site or push it to the bottom of the search results.โ€

What could be more frightening than realizing that your passion project has been relegated to the last page of search results?

And let us not forget the endless promotions like โ€œโ€ฆget your website to the top of Google searches,โ€ or โ€œYour website must be at the top! If itโ€™s not, reach out to us to discover why, and weโ€™ll help you fix it.โ€

Then, there you are, lying awake at night, believing you have ruined your lifelong dream, convinced that things will never improve, and that the โ€œtop of Google searchesโ€ will forever elude you. I can relate to this feeling because I have experienced it myself.

Modern content creation often feels like a negotiation with internet algorithms. These ultimately lead to a feeling that one is negotiating with much more than the algorithm. It is as if one must negotiate with everything on that algorithm. The questions we end up asking ourselves are innumerable: What will perform well? What is trending? What will be seen? What should be seen? When must it be seen?

But here is the quiet truth: The algorithm is not your audience, people are.
When you create solely to satisfy an algorithm, you risk losing the very essence of your voice. You also risk heightening any fear, disappointment or despondency you might be experiencing. Trends shift quickly, and not many last. Authenticity and uniqueness endure. Avoiding the โ€œalgorithm trapโ€ means creating content that speaks honestly while adding good value, even if it does not immediately perform at the very top of the algorithm. In time, genuine work has a way of finding its place. It always finds its audience, or its audience find it.

With the rise of internet algorithms, many find themselves feeling pressured to conform. To avoid falling into what I refer to as โ€œthe algorithm trap,โ€ focus on creating rich authentic content that resonates with your audience rather than chasing fleeting trends.

There is lasting value in content that is thoughtful, well-constructed, and sincere. Rich content does not rush. It invites the reader or viewer in, offers something meaningful, and remains relevant long after it is published.

Prioritize producing high-quality, engaging content that has the potential for longevity. This approach not only enriches your brand but also fosters meaningful connections with your audience over time.

Rich content is the kind of work that builds trust. And trust, unlike virality, does not fade overnight. Regardless of what happens along the path, people will forever remember what is trustworthy. It is difficult to accurately define โ€œtrustworthyโ€ in this instant, because that is up to the audience and how they feel, and what their preferences are.

What Truly Matters in Life, and Content Creation
Rich, thoughtful content builds trust that lasts.

Many years ago, when I launched Triumphant Mind Lifestyle Magazine, I carried both hope and fear in equal measure. There was excitement in the vision, but also uncertainty in execution and outcome. What sustained me was not confidence in outcomes, but clarity in the need.

I had something within me that needed to be expressed, which is experiences that required reflection, and in many ways, healing. That need became the foundation for my journey. It was not about reaching everyone. It was about reaching the people I could share with honestly. Perhaps that is where many meaningful platforms begin. They begin not from strategy alone, but from necessity of the soul.

As we step into the process of creating and sharing content, it becomes essential to pause and examine what is guiding us.

  • Focus on What is Right:

Are we prioritizing ethical standards in our work? Are we guided by a sense of responsibility in what we share? Content has influence, whether we acknowledge it or not. Choosing what is right over what is popular requires discernment.

  • Integrity Matters:

Are we maintaining honesty and transparency in our content? Honesty and transparency are not optional โ€” they are foundational. Readers are perceptive individuals; they can identify sincerity regardless of the manner in which it is presented. They also recognize when it is absent.

Are we creating content solely to achieve viral status?

If we aim only for virality and fall short, it can lead to disappointment or discouragement. It is easy to be drawn toward the idea of virality. The numbers, the reach, and the immediate validation. They all hold a certain appeal for many content creators, and dare I say it, myself included. However, if achieving virality becomes the sole objective, the process of content creation for online publishing can become quite fragile.

What happens when the content does not perform according to our expectations? Disappointment sets in, and doubt is sure to follow.

Creating with the sole aim of going viral is much like building on shifting sand. It may hold for a moment, but for many, it does not endure. What contributes to the lasting โ€œviralโ€ success for certain individuals? Consider the following factors:

  • Financial affordability
  • Time and discipline
  • Outstanding writing or design skills
  • A heartwarming or impactful story
  • A strong aspiration for success
  • Supportive people
  • Thoughtful marketing and advertising
  • Emotional resilience
  • Unfortunate decisions or tragedies
  • A talented and skilled creative team
  • Sharing and word of mouth
  • Luck

These elements, along with many others, can lead us to explore even more possibilities.

I can envision that the idea of โ€œgoing viralโ€ consistently is a secret aspiration for many of us. However, the truth is that it does not always occur, even for those of us who come with genuine intentions.

I am not expressing this as a tactic to dampen anyoneโ€™s aspirations for virality. Rather, I offer it as a shared thought that we can all keep in mind as we journey through this realm known as โ€œthe internet.โ€

At its essence, content creation is not driven by platforms, tools, or even strategy. It is driven by life.

Life, with all its complexities: its joys, its opportunities, its uncertainties, and its quiet lessons. These are the elements that shape the perspective from which we create. Our mindset determines how we interpret these experiences, and in turn, how we present them to others. A reflective mindset produces thoughtful content. A hurried mindset produces reactive content. A grounded mindset produces content that endures.

What matters, then, is not only what we create, but from where we are creating.
Are we generating our work out of a sense of pressure, or are we driven by a clear purpose? Are we creating from a position of hope, or perhaps from desperation? Is our creation motivated by revenge, or is it rooted in goodness?

We arrive, finally, at the question posed in the title.

What truly matters?

What truly matters in life, and content creation is not perfection, it is not constant visibility, it is not โ€œgoing viralโ€™, and it is not even immediate success.

What matters most is alignment.

  • Alignment between your values and your voice.
  • Alignment between your experiences and your expression.
  • Alignment between your intention and your output.
  • Alignment between your humility and inner strength.
  • Alignment between your values and beliefs.

When these are in place, content becomes more than material for consumption. It becomes a reflection of something real. In a space as vast and crowded as the online world, what is beautiful, real, adds positive value, educates, and inspires still carries the greatest weight.

I recognize that I previously spoke about my overwhelming optimism at the beginning of my journey here. However, here is the difference between my former brand of optimism and the typical kind:

Optimism is a powerful force that can propel us forward in our content creation journey. Starting every project with a mindset rooted in optimism does not mean ignoring challenges or potential setbacks, but rather recognizing them as the guiding light for growth and learning. Optimism provides the inner strength and resilience needed to navigate the ups and downs of content creation.

A positive vision is the food for the soul, and the project itself. When we envision our project as a platform that not only shares content but also uplifts and inspires, this vision would be guided by a positive outlook, focusing on the impact and value the content can bring to readers or viewers, rather than solely on metrics or outcomes.

Optimism is also our focus on potential and possibilities. It encourages us to see the potential in every situation. I would approach content creation with an open mind, ready to explore new ideas and possibilities. This openness allows for creativity and innovation, which are essential in crafting meaningful and engaging content.

With a healthy level of optimism, we can persevere through challenges: Most challenges are a natural part of life; however, when approached with optimism, they transform into building blocks instead of obstacles. I would remind myself that each setback is temporary and part of the journey. This perspective helps maintain motivation and determination, even when the path seems difficult.

In content creation from scratch, I would pay more attention to my small victories. Each piece of positive thought, each new tiny milestone accomplished, is a reason to be optimistic. These moments of โ€œtrivialโ€ success fuel further progress and reinforce the belief in the value and progress of the work being done.

I would also aim to inspire others with optimism instead of deflating them with my complaints and grievances regarding challenges.

In the nature of this publication, we discuss the pain, the highlights, the joys, wins, sufferings, inspirations, problems, and solutions of life. We strive to create a balance. This is not deliberate by any means. It just happened that way. The most exhilarating message to share is invariably one of optimism, and we are fortunate that this has been our experience thus far. Even in moments when we share our defeats, our sadness, humbling experiences that bring us to our knees, and our outright failures, it remains uplifting to remind ourselves that the sun will always shine again.

By sharing an optimistic outlook through my content, I hope to inspire others. Optimism is contagious, and when readers sense genuine positivity, it can create a ripple effect, encouraging them to approach their own challenges with hope and determination.

Optimism is not just a state of mind, but a strategic approach that can transform the way we create and share content. It allows us to remain hopeful, resilient, and focused on the potential for positive impact, making our journey in content creation not only successful but also fulfilling.

As we conclude this exploration of what truly matters in life and content creation, let us carry forward the principles of positive alignment, the beauty of spirit, kindness, and genuine sincerity.

In a digital world that often prioritizes speed over substance, let us remember that our unique voice is our greatest asset. It is through this voice that we can build genuine connections, inspire change, and leave a lasting impact. By welcoming our individual journeys with optimism and courage, we can create content that not only informs but also uplifts, resonating with those who seek both meaning and inspiration. Let us continue to craft our narratives with intention, knowing that the stories we share have the power to illuminate paths and forge deep, enduring bonds. TMLM
